I can remember being very young and only wanting to eat chicken tenders. Looking back, it seems like the only memories I have of eating are of eating chicken tenders. I love chicken tenders because they are a good protein source. I’m sure that when I was younger I did not choose them for the amount of protein they have, but most likely for the taste. I think every young child goes through a chicken tender phase to where the only thing they want to eat is chicken tenders or chicken nuggets. Some parents may complain that only chicken tenders for dinner aren’t a very well-balanced meal, but it is better than some other alternatives children could crave. I believe that my childhood fascination with eating chicken may have had a huge impact on my choice of degrees and career paths. Being a Poultry Science-Production major, I marvel at the thought that I now help produce the food that I am so fond of consuming. Many people think that being a part of the industry would make me want to eat chicken less. For me, this isn’t the case. Seeing where my food comes from makes me want to eat it more. I know all the hard work that is put into producing chicken and all the regulations that make what I eat safe. It makes me feel proud to know that what I help create is made by lots of hard labor and is safe to consume because of it.

Chicken may be my favorite food, but my least favorite food would have to be applesauce. I don’t know why, but I cannot tolerate the texture of applesauce. The minute a spoonful hits my mouth I immediately tense up and cannot swallow. It gags me. One of my earliest memories of eating applesauce was in a restaurant with my parents and my father tried to force some inside my mouth. He said if I just tried it, I was sure to like it. Unfortunately, this applesauce ended up all on the table instead of inside my mouth...
